Angélica León creates refined and timeless collections of Sustainable Jewellery, using vegetable ivory (aka tagua nut) as our signature material & in cooperation with skilled artisans in Colombia and Ecuador. We aim to design beautiful jewellery to fit the modern woman's style as well as her sustainable values.

Hva er grunnen til at du startet med akkurat dette? The tagua nut is the seed from the Tagua Palm, which grows widely in the Amazon rainforest. The seeds are collected after falling naturally from the palm so no damage is caused to the mature tree. Angélica aims to create alternative jewellery designs for those looking for unique and modern pieces, while caring for the environment and without compromising in style and quality. Tagua accessories are produced under a rigorous sustainable process, where the artisans thrive in a healthy environment and are paid fair wages. Only natural and edible dyes are used in the dying process and the colours on the nuts are fixed with a mix of lemons and salt, while any remains are discharged safely.

Hva er det beste med å være sin egen sjef? The best about running my own business is to be able create beautiful designs pushing the limitations of the tagua nut and to maintain the principles and vision I pursue in my design practice while curbing the impact that my work has in the environment before, during and after it has been created. I also get to work directly with artisans and makers, while supporting and learning from each other.

En funfact om produktet? The tagua nut is actually edible, although not very tasty. It must dry for over 6 months before it can be used to create our designs.
